Helping Your Child’s Vision “Go the Distance”
Whether your child is learning in school, playing with friends, or relaxing at home, they rely on their distance vision to make the most out of life.
However, a common condition known as myopia can affect your child’s visual clarity and possibly even increase their risk of other complications. The team at Evolutionary Eye Care knows just how important it is to preserve your child’s vision, so we offer several unique strategies to help manage myopia development—including orthokeratology.
Learn more about this condition and treatment, or get the help your child needs when you book an appointment today!
What Is Myopia?
Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, is a refractive error that causes blurry distance vision.
It typically develops during childhood when the eye grows too long, or the cornea becomes too steep. Traditional glasses and contacts could help correct your child’s vision, but myopia control techniques can help keep it from progressing and increasing the risk of other eye conditions.
Ortho-K: Slowing Down Myopia Progression
At Evolutionary Eye Care, we’re proud to offer orthokeratology as one of the numerous ways we can help manage myopia progression.
Dr. Pillai has a special interest in helping children manage myopia progression. He serves as a board member and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthokeratology & Myopia Control, an organization dedicated to educating the public with a focus on how orthokeratology and other techniques can help preserve a child’s vision.
What Does Ortho-K Do?
Orthokeratology vision retainers are worn at night while your child sleeps. During this time, the lenses gently reshape their cornea to correct their vision.
When your child wakes up, they can remove the retainers and enjoy their vision without the need for additional contacts or eyeglasses during the day.
Is Ortho-K Right for My Child?
Though orthokeratology retainers are a fantastic option for children with myopia, we still need to perform a comprehensive eye exam to ensure the treatment is right for them.
We can also offer additional treatments like atropine eye drops and MiSight contact lenses to help control your child’s myopia progression.
